One Day at the Time

Text & musik: Johan Bohlin

have I told you lately that I love you?
it’s the simple truth dear that keeps us alive
on less than minimum wage to keep the hunger at bay

have I told you lately that I need you?
none of us could make it all alone
when the welfare’s cut down
and the factory’s moving out of this town

living hand to mouth, barely getting by
taking one day at the time

have I told you lately that we’re slipping
below the breadline and out of love
I spent my last wage on vodka and gin
to keep us warm til’ the spring

from the day we met ‘til the end of the line
we’ll take one day at the time

I know you’re lonesome, you’re lonesome just like
me, ain’t hard to see, there’s a limit to what hearts
like ours can take, before they break

have I told you lately that I miss you?
this house is empty without your love
I get to work from time to time
and somehow I’m getting by

from the day you left, ‘til the day i die
i’ll take one day at the time
